New Building gets Go-Ahead ! |

| At a recent Woking Borough Council Executive Meeting, funds were approved for the rebuilding of St John's Memorial Hall. This historic meeting has finally approved that the Council will provide the necessary funding. "We are delighted that the Council has recognised that the MHA are serious about providing a community hub and taking part in the big society initiative" said Tony Hannaford. "It was a disappointment when funding through Community Builders was withdrawn, but we did not lose faith, and our local councillors have been very supportive. Our presentation to WBC clearly showed that we are serious about a replacement Hall and they are keen to help a number of local groups, and we have been fortunate to be included". So when do we get a new Hall ? There are few hurdles to overcome yet but we are planning towards opening the new Hall in 2 to 3 years from now. "Although Planning consent is agreed in principle, we have to firm up on the specification, get building regulations approval, go out to tender and select a developer. We anticipate much of this will be done with the help of WBC, we will be closely involved at all stages" said Maurice Hatcher, Project Leader. The Trustees are delighted with the support the Council has shown, and will be looking to the Community to volunteer to help in the next few stages of development and in running the New Hall once built - anyone fancy being the Hall Manager ? |
